The league no-one wants to win

There were a few late withdrawals before the game, which didn't help the team, but good emergency planning did manage to get 11 on the pitch on schedule (fair play to Ultan for getting out of his sickbed) in what ended up a fun game to play. Just a torrid 5 minutes before half time sent the 3rds off the rails in this game, when we conceded 2 goals in quick succession without reply. The game had started on the right track with some great movement off the ball to set Conor Miles up to score and put the reds into the lead. However this didn't last long and RU scored almost immediately to restore parity. Captain Neil Townsend showed some neat footwork in the circle but was unfortunate to deflect the ball past his own keeper, then a neat short corner put RU two ahead and apparently out of site. But again the Reds steamed back and a great pass from Guy Banton (rumours of a mis-hit are scurrilous) put Dan Markey into space to score one on one with the keeper. This game was then in the balance at 2-3, but then RU had 2 goals in quick succession to leave the contest dead just before half time. Since all the 'bold' boys weren't available, there were no cards in this game - you know who you are! The 2nd half was much tighter and only one goal was scored, in spite of RU having a full bench with rolling subs (we had stick bags and water bottles on the bench). Special mention must go to Macker's new stick, which had some incredible 'flat' passing.
