And yet another first team (1 of 2)

Another first team to play...there are a surprising lot of them in this division. (again the focus isn't on the score).

The ad-hoc sub-committee moved indoors on Thursday night and a cunning plan was hatched on how to organise the team for Saturday.
But the benign dictator made a mistake and asked the team for their opinion on the formation, and as all politicians know - never ask a question you do know the answer to, because everyone wanted something different, luckily the toys weren't thrown out of the pram, and we got on with it. And it worked well, barring one moment of weakness when a Suttonian waltzed through the defense and scored, the first 3 quarters were actually quite balanced. There were several attacks and short corners for the reds but these were expertly dealt with by their keeper and that was probably the difference in the game - the closest we came was a shot off the post. An older player from Monaghan (who will remain unnamed!), then put the ball over his own end line - accidentally he said, but when he asked the umpire did he think he was useless enough to put over the line deliberately, the umpire decided that he was - again never ask a question you don't want answered another way. They scored again and the game started to drift away in the 4th quarter. Conor was back after a while away and there was a debut for Ben, who threw himself about with the usual gusto - his time will come. Jack and Jake are finding that midfield with the seniors comes with lots of bumps and bruises, but are getting into it more each week.
The 'splitters' after-match ad-hoc subcommittee analysed the game in detail - but for some reason could not fix any of the issues, so settled in and the final disappointment was that the chip shop next door was still closed (now that was a disaster).
