CHC beat Trinity 2-1 in debut EYHL2 match

The season started on Saturday 29th Sept with a bang, a big fixture against Trinity in the new EYHL2 league. CHC having earned promotion to this national stage after a very promising provincial season last year.
On the flip side, Trinity were relegated down from EYHL1 , and having played a year at the highest level, they were always going to be a tough place to start the season.
The game started with Trinity on the front foot, creating chances in the first 10mins. CHC looked understandably nervous, but making it to the end of 1/4 at 0-0 was a good start. It was a quick break and back to work for 2/4.
The CHC girls began to find their stride and cause Trinity some problems. It was half way through the 2/4 when a piece of individual excellence from Jodie Douglas broke the deadlock. She skillfully beat two players on the top of the D and roofed home a cracker. 1-0.
Near the end of 2/4, Milly Lynch, on her debut, sent a beautiful aerial pass from the top of CHCs circle over the half way line and beyond Trinity's press. Douglas was the receiver and she worked nicely with Nicola Torrans to create a good opportunity. Some excellent defending from Trinity saved them from being 2-0 down at half time.
The second half began with CHC still on top, controlling the play very well and looking a lot more comfortable in the game. It was in the 3/4 when CHC broke on the counter attack and found Jess McGrane in the D unmarked -- 2-0, class finish from McGrane on her reverse.
It was beginning to look like CHC would see out this game, but a green card for not retreating 5mt followed by a yellow for the same offence gave Trinity a big boost and they came attacking in waves, and they got their reward with a nice goal to make it 2-1 going into the final quarter. Game on!

The final quarter was end to end, nail biting stuff. Both teams won corners but neither could covert. It finished 2-1 to CHC after a hard fought game. A wonderful start to the season and a first win over Trinity since October 2012.
Notable performances from all CHC players on the day, but Holly Micklem, Leanne Kelly and Sarah Coleman deserve an extra shout out for some great defending !
The CHC girls have Greenfields away next in the EYHL2 on 14th October.
