The Ladies 1’s kept a clean sheet in their 1-0 win over NUIG in their 2nd match of the EYHL2.
Q1 was dominated by some early pressure by NUIG forcing a number of excellent saves by goalkeeper Holly Micklem. However in the 8th minute some great teamwork by CHC involving Camila Arbulo, Isabelle Maleady & Laura Motyer led to a tap in goal by Caoimhe Proud-Murphy.
Q2 started with CHC donning yellow bibs to differentiate the similar strips of both teams. A depleted CHC defence kept the direct attacking play of NUIG at bay. This in turn allowed some great offensive team play by the CHC girls. Most notable of this was a controversially disallowed goal by Jessica McGrane.
In Q3, CHC increased the pressure with a number of goal scoring chances which unfortunately went unconverted. Milly Lynch was strong in both defence & attack and Cilia Holdermann, on her 1’s debut, had a great break down the left with a cross to CP being saved by NUIG keeper.
Q4 continued in the same vein with a move started out of defence by Emily McKay to Sara Quill, on to Nicola Torrans & across to Jodie Douglas whose shot unfortunately went wide. Further chances by CHC were also spurned before NUIG were awarded a penalty corner in the last play of the game. All, including the traveling supporters, held their breath before it went wide (thankfully!)
Next weekend CHC are back to playing a Div 1 game at home to Naas.
