Following a blistering start CHC were 2-0 up after 4 mins. Amber Kinlan got the first within the opening minute & Nicola Torrans was on target for the second in the 4th min.
NUIG rallied towards the end of Q1 & netted their only goal in the 16th min when Sinéad Minehan scored with a fine strike.
Q2 saw CHC creating a number of scoring opportunities & were rewarded in the 29th min when Jodie Douglas netted after good work by Cilia Holdermann leaving the score 3-1 at half time.
Conditions improved significantly for the second half allowing for more free flowing hockey to be played. After key contributions by Sophie Maleady, Lynne Pomeroy & Camilia Arbulo, Jess McGrane scored the 4th goal in the 49th min.
The goal of the match came in the final quarter when a pass out of defense by Hannah McKay to Jess found Niamh Walsh on the left who calmly rounded a number of defenders to slot home while being upended by NUIG goalie.
Considering the miserable conditions for both players & supporters the reward for this fine win is a guaranteed place in the EYHL2 play-offs in April.
Next up is another crucial game in Div 1 at home against Monkstown on Monday evening at 8.15pm.
