Railway 1 - 0 Corinthians

The boys couldn't quite pull off winning the U14B League this year but came very close, finishing in second place on Friday night playing Railway at home in the league final. The lads played a stormer in a nail-biting match that could have gone either way, the 0-0 halftime score reflecting how close things really were. With 10 minutes to go Railway eventually broke through for a single goal that proved enough to clinch the match, and league winners’ title for 2018, our congratulations and thanks for some great matches throughout the season.

Second place in the league, and reaching the Cup semi-finals, is a terrific achievement for a team comprised mainly of 1st years, a single 2nd year, and regularly assisted by 4 U12s playing up, now firmly part of the team. Given that most of their opposition this year had a lot of "well built second years" playing, the team can be hugely proud of their match performances and achieving "silver" in the league. However, even more important is how the boys now play as a team and not a collection of individual players. Of this, and their ever-growing sense of team loyalty and sportsmanship, they can be even more proud.

With my manager’s hat on, and on behalf of the Club, team coaches Neil Mackay, Ross MacWilliam, and Tony Long, and all the players, can I express our thanks to parents/taxi drivers for their continuing presence, support and loyalty throughout the season, often in less than ideal weather conditions. We do need you guys too!

Finally, and with my parent's hat on, can I express our gratitude to coaches Tony, Ross, and Moose for their dedication to the team. Moose in particular expends a lot of time and effort on our children, hopefully seeing them grow and develop as hockey players and young men is reward enough, because other than a cheeky response or a firm handshake that’s all he gets out of it!

Things are looking very promising for next year……
