Cormac proves the difference against Rovers

This was a typical start of season friendly for the 3rds, who were looking to get some of the summer excesses out of their systems. Cormac Benn proved that he was the difference as he was untouchable against TRR, almost invisible at times as he ghosted around the pitch and didn't make a single mistake all game, the previous days preparation obviously working out well, and may be replicated by some of the more senior members of the team as the season progresses, training notes will be posted.
It was a tight game overall, with no goals in the first half, Alan doing what was needed in goals, but the 3rds did up their game in the 2nd half pressing more and playing shorter passes very effectively. The goal by Guy Banton was a classic from almost a foot out (twice his normal distance), scored after a quick free at the edge of the TRR circle from Davy to Guy via our sweeper, but only after the sweeper escaped out of his own half for a rare foray forward (despite Neil, the captain, calling him back repeatedly and threatening to keep a leash on him in future matches).
The blend of youth and experience (can't say who fits in to which category for legal reasons) worked well at all sections of the pitch (Ultan, David & Dan at the back with the Ralphs adding pace up front), the rest struggled to get their shoes on! Conor and Tim who still fit in either category at this stage did well to cover in midfield for Macker who tired quickly in the 2nd half after his half-time analysis exhausted him (and the team) - must still be recovering from this recent expedition to France for a Sommelier course.
Quote of the day - "Lads, it's simple - anyone who argues with the umpire, takes the whistle and they become the umpire", there wasn't a word all day from the players - but Gordy did raise his eyebrows quite a few times, but kept quiet and played on!
Another friendly this week against Railway Union with a few more players to come back (to support Cormac) and prepare for the season ahead.
