No, this was not the performance level, but the average number of players on the pitch away to Kilkenny on Saturday.
And young Jack as the 0.5 even managed to score a brace. No pressure, but next time with a full match - 4 goals are expected.
Master Strategist (AKA Macker) had devised a system to utilise the 10 players to maximum effect and surprisingly it also worked with 9.
Commandant Rath (promoted from last week) and Sam were inspired by this formation and were most effective in stemming continuous attacks from Kilkenny.
Defensively, experience showed (polite term for age) ..even Moose wasn’t the oldest (but the combined MacKays were - the younger being literally unbeatable in goal).
The tactic of trying to hit a nearby warehouse with defensive clearances (for a cash reward) was however frowned upon by the purists.
Frankie scored from the one short corner (100% record) - also the only defender unlikely to get a nosebleed if he left his own half.
Ryan followed this up in the 2nd quarter (and luckily the umpire called this correctly as it was quite close to the post - good call Tony!).
At this stage - the masterstroke to confuse Kilkenny - take off one of the 10 payers during half time- confused Neil as well - and Jack took a break but snuck back on later - in some pain - and scored 2 more.
Celebrations lasted long into the night (The Alamo was quickly discounted as they lost that battle - so Rorke’s Drift was deemed more suitable as a similar battle against the odds).
