Lucky it wasn't all of Kildare

Better publish this before the 3rd bottle of wine kicks in.

It was an early start on Saturday -10am in Kilcock ...who thought this was a good idea!! (it did restrict Friday night ..a little)
But the early hour meant there was little traffic so we got there early ..and could walk along the banks of the Royal Canal and have a coffee (or a mocha if you are more hip than me!).
On a cold windy morning we had the bare 11, until the late Mr T turned up (he wasn't deceased, just late!).. this meant El Capitano had the luxury to start himself on the bench(his tracksuit stayed on longer).

The team was based on an equal division of numbers across several teams, so a few guests on the day were appreciated from above.
The first half was fairly even with chances for both sides, best chances coming from the reds (we were white on the day) with 2 short corners which went astray.

The tempo upped in the next quarter and when Nth Klldare had their first 2 corners they scores both from drag flicks (the 2nd of which was a spectacular effort to the top corner - which Mr T smartly ducked ...and kept his head - wise move and we all said it was the fastest he moved all day.
(on the sideline Tony L was heard to say that if he was on the line he would have headed it away...Davy S replied that it would have been a very hollow sound indeed).

The game then opened up .. Oran starting to overlap on the right and Ryan finding some space.
Less said about the left side the better... The craic in Galway must have been great!
Simon and Alistair did get some chances early on, but NK defense held solid.

The last quarter started with a break way and deflection to the roof for NK, so then when Jacob earned a free on the opponents 16, the left back (who same remain nameless) decided to venture up field - so after the initial nosebleed from passing the half way line and then vertigo when entering the circle - he found himself in space but then held back as he saw that Macker had the ball in the circle and was about to shoot, so I took up a line to the corner flag and sure enough, the shot came straight to me for a tap in, Macker had already fooled the keeper, who foolishly assumed he would shoot on target. I gave him the option to say it was a great pass, but no, he admitted the shot was that much off target. Makes up for all the misses on Thursday night, I got it out of my system.

2 minutes later the same scenario, Mackers shot was on target this time, but Sam thought he was still in Galway and though we were in red (lack of sleep catching up with him) and promptly kicked the ball off the opponents line better than any goalkeeper. For a change the captain was speechless...Gordy however is still laughing.
This stuff writes itself - a 4th goal mattered little as we pressed on - an unfair result for a tight game ..we need to work on defense of drag flicks...but won't lose our heads (or thumbs) ... some things matter more than others and the team is improving each week.

PS El Presidente was excellent with the whistle at the start of a long day of hockey for him - Frank just went prinking - his priorities are correct
