Friday Film Noir in Donabate

The first mystery was why they suggested to play this at 7pm on a Sunday - followed by ..how we managed not to win with all the chances.

The cast of characters was like that from a black and white Film Noir from the 40s.
Marco (I don't score often) Trolese proved his nickname wrong again - a good habit to develop.
Commissioner of Umpiring (El Presidente, in disguise) struggling to stand let alone concentrate on following the match after celebrating the cup win the day before.
Sam Spade (The captain) managed to get the Northmen to change the time and get a full team out.
The unexpected Bank Holiday had an advantage to bring forward the match, so in splendid afternoon sunshine in Donabate, the game went ahead with a surprisingly large crowd.
We almost went ahead ... but the commissioner disallowed a volley to the roof of the net on the grounds of previous danger and it was just a free in (the only danger was my gloating, if it had been allowed). Another black and white decision was conveniently settled as grey - to everyone's amusement.
Ryan gave many options with the long aerials and with a rotating front four of Jake, Sam, Jack and Marco .. there was plenty of activity, behind then was Aaron and Miles adding stability and guile to the legs of Alistair and Tim.
But for all the chances created the big sleep was collective and other than Marco being in the right place at the right time to tap in, all chances were spurned.
Portrane went ahead in the 3rd quarter and nothing could get the game back (Raymond Chandler couldn't have scripted it).
At least there were no cards for a change and the result was achieved on Friday not waiting until midnight on Sunday.
At least it wasn't a horror movie!

Instructions

Apologies, Portrane couldn't get pitch time on Sunday until 7pm,
So we agreed to try and bring the match forward. Friday being a bank holiday we hoped to play earlier rather than later.
