Seachtain na Gaeilge

Enough of confusing the foreigners -for the 2nd time in 2 weeks we had to travel north (but to confuse the foreigners its in a circular direction of course..the M50 doesn't do straight lines)
Wiki describes Sutton as occupying a tombolo (really!) and I thought it was on an isthmus (I may just have confused the locals as well now).
None of this helped as after a cold week (and the 4ths now also on a winning streak), it was off to the seaside and it was grave (pun intended).
Little Ben was annoyed, only 9 turned up..phone calls at the side of the pitch got no extra players (the Travelling Da's need to be careful, they will be roped in to play again... and scurrilous rumours that they didn't attend all matches can be dispelled, they still came and had a look, even when their sons aren't always playing. They have a better attendance than some of the players (you know who you are!)
The rain was almost horizontal, the temperature was just above zero, and the wind chill...100 below. (no excuse for not wearing a gumshield properly...again you know who you are)
But we got on with, and it ended up having merit as a game in adversity - some of the new young guns became men, Jacob and Ethan showing that even though their fingers were frozen, they tackled and chased hard and never gave up, and a narky Ben wants team mates to turn up.
They scored ..several times, no descriptions are needed - keeper had no chance on several occasions, the defenders were outnumbered (even Simon did a turn in defense, as did Sam - a bit of getting used to, but they got a taste of it), no blame anywhere.
But with a 3-1-3-1 formation (that's a new one for the master manipulator), we did manage to create some opportunities, and on one short corner Gianluca did score ..not quite net-buster, but they all count). And even Gordy, who was injured turned up to umpire...that's dedication.

On the way home the waves crashed over the sea wall.... it was that type of day... but it was not wasted, we were the team that turned up.
