The Last Hurrah

Last Wednesday the 4s travelled to Town for their final match of the season. Andy Farrell assembled a squad of 23 for the final game. Its gas you are all season chasing players and on some occasions just being able to get out the bare 11 players 2 legs and a stick. Players came out of the woodwork selected or not they turned up for meaningless end of season game. We were safe but we were not going up. Even Simon Comerford was in civvies in the bleachers. So he couldn't substitute himself on on this occasion.

In recent weeks I have given Jake Tipping a lift to matches and on the last occasion he told me he played up front. So for this game I decided to play him up front to see how he went. On arriving at the ground I noticed that he was warming up on an adjacent pitch with his mother. HIs mother was feeding him balls into the circle and he was turning and the net was bulging so I said to myself this backs up my decision.

Grandmaster Glitch Rath was about to take the squad through the warm up but some upstart called Harks had the Gal to say he was taking the Grimbots in the warmup. And their are a few Grim bots on our team may I tell you.

The 4s started like a house on fire with Marco Polo and Frankie Goes to Holywood (or Portugal) full of energy in midfield. It was the best quarter of hockey for energy and passion and skill all season. Jake Tipping played a stormer and looked a perfect partner for that oul Geyser up front. The Reds nearly went 1 up. 0-0 end of first quarter.

There was only one team in it and eventually Frankie found the net. But shortly afterwards the chcs defence was caught napping and the sides were level. 1-1 Half time.

Monkstown came into it a bit in the third quarter but Corinthians had their lions share of the play. 1-1 end of third quarter.

It was end to end in the fourth quarter with Town rolling us over and scoring with 10 minutes to go. Le Chien had a rebound sneaky taken of the line. But it wasn't to be another one got away a game we could have won.

I wish to thank Alan Rath for all his hard work of getting the team out during the week.

I now know a lot more about all the players at the end of the season that I knew at the start.

Have a nice summer in the sun.

They think it is all over it is not we are playing Connaught Masters this weekend. A few dodgy customers on that team.
