WAITING FOR BUSES

Did ye ever wait for a bus and 2 came together. Well that's what happened CHC 4s, they were waiting for a win and two came together.

We came up to the Whitechurch Park to find the Firsts training. Fadó Fadó a long time ago now I remember it well Shawsy barking out the orders as we ran up and down the banks at the side of the pitch. Bleep tests et al. But this was just the curtain raiser for the real action. The alarm bells went off don't panic don't panic the Club Captain decided to water the pitch with the temperature set to become -4. A risky gamble ye should have seen the skipper's face.

The reds were without Victor O'Sullivan (playing pool) who had gone on the piste. But to balance things out we welcomed Moose who had just come back from the piste. A strong squad had assembled including Gordon Lindsay.

The first quarter was nip and tuck and Wicklow scored a scrappy goal slightly against the run of play with Le Chien swinging tamely at a ball he might have stopped. 0-1 end of first quarter.

But with Moose loose about this hoose, channelling his inner Andy Robertson, flying up and down the black slopes and bending zee knees for low tackles at right back CHC came back into the game. TK fizzed one in past the keeper. Then shortly later Sam Stevenson had a great strike from the top of the D to score his first goal of the season. 2-1 Half Time.

It was not a night for sitting on the splinters. It takes Billy a whole half to warm up these days and he kindly umpired for the first half. Well done Billy. When he finally cranked himself up he found that battery was flat and he had to be replaced by Pat Boylan at full forward. This was a very good quarter of hockey by the reds who really worked hard and kept their positioning well and snuffed out anything the Wicklow boys could throw at them. 2-1 end of third quarter.

With a few rotations in the 4th quarter and with Gordon Lindsay taking a rest the reds looked vulnerable again. Like the previous game there was one final short corner which was repelled and the reds had won. We had leapfrogged our opponents in the league. The pitch was a bit crispy at this stage but the Mack heaved a sigh of relief.

I noticed that the match against Mullingar has been postponed this weekend because we couldn't field a team. I am surprised by this I thought we could have roped in a few Burkes to play for us as they are always hanging around outside Wilson's Hospital School.

They all lived happily ever after.

PS I forgot to congratulate Herr Flick (Alan Rath) on the birth of his daughter Chloe in our last report.
