Ladies 1s win against Avoca to remain unbeaten at Christmas

Ladies 1s win against Avoca to remain unbeaten at Christmas

Corinthian Ladies 1s felt they had a point to prove against Avoca after a dominating performance on the opening day of the season resulted in a draw.

The game started with Corinthian holding all the possession, staying very patient in the build up. Avoca defending in large numbers for the whole game which made creating space for chances difficult. However, the deadlock was broken by Lynne Pomeroy around the 10min mark with a good team move resulting in the goal.
Corinthian continued to hold the majority of possession but Avoca defended excellently. Two first half penalty corners for Corinthian resulted in the ball being mis-trapped at the top of the D, a frustrating end to a good half.

The second half began in similar fashion, but a well worked penalty corner routine was slotted home by Alanah Quinsey after 12mins and Corinthian could take a deep breath, it wasn't going to be Deja Vu. Corinthian continued to attack, and to their credit Avoca saw some openings on the counter and forced two good saves from Rebecca Murtagh between the posts.
The final 10mims saw Corinthian turn the screw, tired legs in the Avoca back line from some relentless movement from the Corinthian forwards began to open up the play. Some good saves were made by the Avoca GK, only to finally be undone after an interception in the press by Lynne Pomeroy, who drove into the space and very intelligently slipped a pass to Laura Motyer for a very tidy finish. 3-0.

Nicola Torrans made her first team debut and did very well, proving the future in CHC is very bright. Other notable performances from Lynne Pomeroy , Sarah Coleman and Emily McKay in the CHC team.
