Training is on every Saturday morning from 9.00am to 10.00am on the back pitch unless otherwise informed. If for any reason training is cancelled due to adverse weather, we will endeavour to try to cancel prior to you having to leave the house, so on bad mornings keep an eye out for pitchero emails & texts.
Training is going very well and it is great to see so many at training each week (on average we have 19 out of a possible 27) and we are delighted with the progress. After the mid-term break we will continue to break into 2 or 3 groups and will rotate the boys around the various exercises. We are going to continue with the basics especially pushing, hitting, stopping, passing and will keep introducing some new skills.
As the sessions are going so well we are running out of time to do the small games at the end of the session but when we are back we will try and fit in a few more games at the end of each Saturday morning session.
There is no training this Saturday the 4th Nov due to the mid-term break but training resumes Saturday 11th Nov at the usual time of 9.00am.
We did run a session on Sunday 15th Oct to replace a cancelled blitz and it was a great to have Sam O’Connor (current Irish Senior International) come down and ran the session for the boys. It was a great session and it gave the boys an opportunity to train with an Irish International and see what the highest level of hockey is like. I am hoping that Sam will do one or two more sessions before the season is over.
As the Sunday went very well, we may also run a few more Sunday sessions to give us additional training time and give the boys more time on the main pitch.
We introducing the weekly award 4 weeks ago for the player that puts in the best effort and performance at training. I think the idea behind the award is working well and the boys are working harder on their skills and putting in a huge effort at training.
Congrats to James, Cael, Daniel & Patrick who are the initial 4 winners…….I am sure / expect that everybody will win it at least once in the year.
Due to some schedule changes we have only had one blitz so far, which was away in Monkstown. We entered two teams and both teams played very well. We received a number of complements about how well the boys played especially about their basics and passing ability, which is great to hear.
We are using the club communication tool (PItchero) to confirm details & attendance for each blitz. As we have quite a few players, we will enter at least 2 teams into each blitz and will try for 3. If we can only get 2, we will have high numbers but can roll on and off on a regular basis. If for any reason we only get one team into a blitz we will run a rota system for these limited team blitzes to ensure everybody gets an opportunity to play.
Blitz Schedule – (subject to change)
Sunday 15th Oct Glenanne (away) – Cancelled & to be rescheduled
Sunday 22nd Oct Monkstown (away)
Sunday 19th Nov Wicklow (away)
Sunday 26th Nov Three Rock Rovers (away)
Gumshields and shinguards must be worn for all training sessions and blitzes.
Hats, gloves and a few layers as the mornings are getting a bit colder and a light rain jacket in case it rains.
Keep yourself wrapped up as it gets very cold on the side line.
If you are looking to buy a hockey stick, please do not go out and buy an expensive stick, at this age a simple stick will do, the important thing is the correct size. If unsure about the size, just ask any of us. I am attaching a link to Gilmore sports in Sandyford who stock all hockey equipment & CHC gear http://www.gilmoursports.com/. Just ask for Sam.

As you know we are using the new club communication tool (Pitchero) for all communication with parents and for coordinating blitzes. Remember more than one parent can be linked to each child.
As you may know it is the clubs intention to place our main pitch with a new state of the art water based pitch. We had hoped to do this prior to the start of the season but due to a delay in the sports capital grant funding (government funding) we have had to delay until the end of the season. An announcement on the sports capital grant is expected in Nov.
That’s all for the moment, see you Saturday 11th Nov and enjoy the break this Saturday.
