A tough day in Portrane against a strong team ended with the first league loss for the U14 Boys today. We started well and the first score of the game went to Corinthians with Ethan Black scoring a lovely goal from a terrific series of passes all the way forward from the defense. But Portrane were excellent opposition and drew level within 5 minutes followed soon after by another. Half time score was 2-1 to Portrane, a scoreline that should have been easy to come back from. However, soon into the second half Portrane scored 2 goals in quick succession followed by a 5th a few minutes later. Despite a nicely taken penalty from Caleb Owen to bring us to 5-2 and some terrific attempts by the defense to bring the ball forward we ran out of time and had to admit defeat to a better team on the day.
A disappointing day for the lads, but all is not yet lost. The team are still top of the U14B League with 18 points followed by Portrane with 16 points. Portrane have to play Weston next Sunday where they need to win to overtake us in the league. So, a week to wait....
Our thanks to Portrane for a very sporting game and a warm welcome.
